A Family’s Story of Love and Giving

In the 1970s, the Thompsons* were hoping to start a family, but faced challenges with infertility. That’s when they turned to Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois (LCFS) for help. With LCFS’ support, they were able to adopt their daughter, Jane. Two years later, their family grew again when they adopted their son, Michael.

Robert is still thankful to LCFS for helping him become a father. “I will always be indebted to LCFS,” he says. “I was a beneficiary of their work and will always give back what I can.” Robert has supported LCFS through his church and personal gifts for many years. He’s also made a legacy gift commitment to make sure his support continues in the future. “My children are my life,” he adds.

Michael, Robert’s son, has followed in his father’s footsteps, not just in his career, but also in his dedication to giving back. He works alongside his dad in wealth management and is a generous supporter of LCFS. “I want to give back to the organization that helped shape my life,” Michael says. “I feel lucky to be able to support LCFS and don’t take it for granted. I plan to help as long as I can.”

Michael is married and has three children. He and his wife have thought about becoming foster parents one day, as a continuation of their commitment to helping more children in need.

The Thompsons’ story is one of love, gratitude, and giving back. LCFS is deeply thankful to Robert and Michael for their ongoing support and commitment to helping us continue our work of changing lives for the better.
