Carmen* was overwhelmed. Yelling and resorting to physical discipline with her two school-aged children. She needed help.
One of LCFS’ newer programs—Best Start for Families—was there to help her as she began a journey of self-discovery and growth. Through parenting classes and one-on-one coaching with Rachel, her Best Start parenting coach, Carmen underwent a profound transformation.
Despite her initial doubts, she gradually gained confidence in her abilities as a mom. This newfound confidence not only improved Carmen’s relationship with her children, but also spilled over into other areas of her life.
She started attending church, leaning into the community for support. She also began the process of repairing her strained relationship with her own mother. After all Carmen learned from the Best Start for Families program, she was able to see things from her mom’s perspective and forgive her.
Reflecting on her journey, Carmen shared, “Thank you for everything you’ve done for my family and me. I’ll use what I’ve learned for the rest of my life.” Her parenting coach, Rachel, expressed admiration for Carmen’s growth, saying, “It was an honor to see her change and be part of her journey.”
